Ingeneue Installation instructions:

  1. Download Ingeneue from the download page.
  2. After downloading, double click on the Ingeneue.zip file and uncompress the contents of the file to a directory of your choice.
  3. Java must be installed on your computer (Java 5, Java 6, or Java SE 1.4 or higher). If you do not have Java, download it and follow the install instructions for your computer at java.sun.com. OPTIONAL: To check whether your computer has Java installed properly:
    1. On Mac OS X from your main hard drive, select Applications->Utilities->Terminal. When a new window appears, type java -version . If you have Java installed, you should see a message saying something like java version "1.5.0_07". If you do not see this, or if your version is below 1.4, download Java from http://developer.apple.com/java/
    2. On Windows XP, click on start, then Run, then type cmd . When a new window appears, type java -version . If you have Java installed, you should see a message saying something like java version "1.5.0_07". If you do not see this, or if your version is below 1.4, download Java from java.sun.com.
    3. On Windows Vista, click on the Vista symbol (the thing that used to say "start" in previous versions of Windows) in the lower left corner of the screen, then type cmd . When a new window appears, type java -version . If you have Java installed, you should see a message saying something like java version "1.5.0_07". If you do not see this, or if your version is below 1.4, download Java from java.sun.com.
    4. On Unix, from a command terminal, type type java -version . If you have Java installed, you should see a message saying something like java version "1.5.0_07". If you do not see this, or if your version is below 1.4, download Java from java.sun.com.
  4. Once Ingeneue is downloaded, unzipped, and Java is properly installed, start Ingeneue as follows:
    1. On Mac OS X: Double click on the file IngeneueMac.command in the Ingeneue directory
    2. On Windows: Double click on the file IngeneueWin.bat in the Ingeneue directory
    3. On Linux: In a command terminal, execute the command java main.GeneNet from the Ingeneue directory or double click on the file IngeneueMac.command in the Ingeneue directory.
  5. Once Ingeneue is up & running, try reading the manual or going through the tutorials that come with Ingeneue (you can find them under the help menu).

Troubleshooting:

If Ingeneue does not start after step 4, see the README.txt file in the Ingeneue directory for final troubleshooting information. Also make sure that Java is properly installed by seeing the help on sun's java site. If all else fails, you can contact us for help.
